Front wheel bearings, cylinder head gasket and rear shocks leaking early are known GS flaws (According to owners reports here) along with poor headlamp and bad rear brake.

Am not regular with the maintenance but manual doesn't mention any long-term precautions for rear shocks. Similar rust on front shock inner tubes - my guess is that Suzuki wanted more strength for these (rear shocks and front forks) and Gabriel added more iron/steel and overall they didn't do extensive/longer field testing.īut I wonder why no GS'pian changed the shocks to CBZ/Hunk/ZMA/RTR - such a swap is not possible?Ī Honda Shine parked a few meters away from my lot and not used/moved an inch for last 2 years doesn't have rust at those places. At my best, I can remove the rust with WD-40 before moving the vehicle but any rust not removed would definitely puncture the seals, even if I remove the rust, the "pit/hole" created would lead to a leak. I have not used my GS for the past 7-8 months and this is how the inner tube of the shock looks. My qn: Is this the life of the shock absorbers? Should both of the rear shocks be replaced at the same time?.won't replacing just one interfere with suspension quality?Better to replace it as a pair.Įarly leaking of shock absorbers at rear is a known problem in GS. My GS seemed to leak oil after a service at 41k.I thought it was probably lubrication from the newly replaced chain rviced at 49K at SMK, nothing rectified and now service at 52K, another service center says it is the rear shock leaking and it needs to be replaced.cannot be rectified. Is 41K kms okay to get the rear shocks replaced?. Has anyone switched to 110/120 mm lately, how about other improvements? I am still deciding which tyres to fit on GS. The parts I am not getting as a direct fit for GS I get from Gixxer or they order them for me. Dealers in Mexico are handling demand quite decently. My advice is guys, before considering getting a bigger motorcycle, go for refinement and a trusty engine and just keep your GS! In other words is, keep your bike in top shape -modify it if you want- and trust Suzuki India will continue to provide parts for a few more years. This could actually increase engine life, and at 23K kms, the engine on my GS is still young. Talking about mods, upjetting the bike some months ago was probably the best investment on the bike, as even the exhaust sound is that of a bigger cc bike and the engine cooled down even though I rutinely hit 8500 rpms on the open road. My next project is removing the carburettor to copy the settings that have worked so well on my bike, just in case I switch to a Special Edition one.

I don't believe I should buy a new air filter, as the mod on my filter took me about 2 hours to finish, and it is a bit expensive here! I thought I should mention tappet noise is kept at minimum levels and valves seem to be in top shape, considering performance alone. Also, I have washed the modified air filter a 3rd. My CR9EHIX spark plug is running great as well. I do not think I am going back to fully synth for some time, as I don't think GS needs more expensive oil. Just my thoughts.Īnyway, regarding GS these days.! I have found a difference between mineral and semisynthetic oil after 2,500 Kms, level is exactly the same with semi (Repsol 10w40 Sport) AND power is still great I am thinking I could push the oil to about 3,000 Kms, as planned, without any noticeable loss in performance.

I mean, there are people complaining about how uncomfortable Gixxer is, and many have deplored the lack of 6th gear on the bike. Of course this may never happen, but it would be nice, don't you think? BTW, I am not sure if a 6-speed, 150cc bike like GS is ever coming out of Suzuki's stable again, but that would be absolutely welcome. Call me nuts, but IMO, a touring Gixxer (with raised handlebars, more comfortable single seat, decent brakes and tyres, good lighting AND lower weight compared to GS) could be coming from Suzuki. It seems like a void is being created for a new motorcycle that could be a true replacement for GS. I have noticed some kind of feeling developing on forums concerning Gixxer and related lightweight motorcycles offered by Suzuki (Gixxer SF, V-Strom 250, etc.), now that both GS150r and Inazuma are gone (I believe globally).
